Hey everyone welcome back to my channel. My name is Leah and thanks for tuning in today today, I’m gonna be talking about how I save money to travel. I’M gonna give you my deepest darkest secret and yeah.
Let’S jump right in so a lot of people always ask me how I can afford to travel. As often as I can. I actually wrote a blog post about this so check out this link, I’m gonna post it in the description box.
It’S on my website. I have a detailed blog about how I’m able to travel so often what I didn’t really share on there is how I save money to travel, and that’s a big thing is saving. Is such a huge part about being able to travel so this technique that I use is how I saved $ 10,000 to move to Switzerland, and it’s also how I’ve saved money to be able to travel the whole time that I’ve been in Switzerland and how I’ve Been able to save money for my next adventure, which I will share with you guys soon, so before I jump into this secret, I must say that, regardless, if you do this or not, the main thing is that you have to make travel a priority in your Life, so it’s the same with anything.
So if you want to save money to go back to school or if you want to save money for a new car, you have to prioritize that to make that happen, and that’s how I feel about travel every day before I buy something guess what I’m thinking About traveling and the money that I need to save for travel cuz, that’s just my priority right now in life, everyone has different priorities, but for everything you have to make a commitment and you have to set a plan, and this is kind of what I’m going To share for you so before you think about doing this, just know that if you want to travel as much as I do or if you wonder all the time why I’m able to travel so much and some people have said that they’re envious, which I understand, But it’s not, and I have worked very hard – it’s not just luck.
Nothing has been handed to me. I’Ve worked very hard and I prioritized this for my life. Let me tell you guys the secret, the biggest tip. I can give you to saving money, and this is what I have been doing for probably about a year and a half.
Now what do I do? I pretend that I’m broke and how do I pretend that I’m broke easy every month I get paid in Swiss alone. It’S actually been a lot easier to do this because I get paid once a month, so it’s easier to pretend that I’m broke.
So this is what I do. I get paid my monthly salary once a month as soon as that hits my checking account. I pay all my bills and then everything else I put into my savings account and I leave myself with a couple hundred dollars to survive with for the rest of the month, and so whatever is in my checking.
Account is just what I have. I don’t. Even look at what’s in my savings, I don’t even what I do. It’S just a state of mind. It’S like a mind trick. Also like I, I tell myself that that’s an untouchable, that’s, not even real money.
The only money that I can touch is in my checking account. I just pretend that the other stuff is not even there, and I live like that. Money is not even there so leaving such a small amount. In my checking account limits me.
It makes me believe that I’m broke, and it makes me live every day like I’m broke, even though I’m not broke, and that is my biggest trick. So, even though I have thousands in my savings account, I have $ 100 right now in my checking account and I just got paid so for the rest of the month of July.
I have $ 100 to my name, and I actually legitimately stick to that. There are months like this month, I’m probably gonna have to use my credit card a bit because $ 100 is not going to asked me the month, even being extremely fearful.
All probably I can last off of maybe three two to three hundred. I can map last for the month being extremely frugal. I’M really good at that, but a hundred is it’s not gonna last. That’S what I do. I don’t transfer money back from my savings into my checking.
I just don’t so if I only have, if I have nothing left the last week, guess what I’m eating I’m eating, maybe bread and crackers the rest a month and that’s how I live. I just pretend that I’m broke and it works.
It works. It’S amazing cuz. If you leave all that money and your checking account – and you can just swipe swipe, swipe your card and go to the ATM and withdrawal that amount, then you’re, not thinking about that amount in your account, so you’re using way too much money.
But if you limit it, you don’t want your car to get declined, that’s embarrassing! So I know I only have a hundred dollars right now. So I’m like I’m going out tonight, I’m not gonna drink. I might have one drink, even though I could drink all night financially.
I have the money, but since I’m pretending that I only have a hundred dollars right now, I can only afford one drink tonight, so that has been the biggest thing. That has helped me to save money and it’s amazing.
It really really works. I’Ve been doing it. Every month I’ve been pretending that I’ve been broke and I’ve been living like I’m broke and I’m not broke and also like. You might think that it’s really stressful, but it’s actually not because I know that I’m this is gonna sound, like I’m convicted contradicting myself.
I know that I’m not broke so if an emergency were to arise or if I really really need something or if I really really want something and I’m not and like you know, I have those moments like the other day, I went shopping for a bed.
They really wanted some summer clothes because I came from America with only winter clothes. So, like one of the things I bought this, I bought like maybe two other shirts from H & M, and since I know that I’m not gonna die for spending 40 bucks shopping like I did that.
So it wasn’t like a stress and also I know if anything were to happen to me or if I broke my ankle, I could pay for medical expenses or, if I have to go to the doctor or if my phone broke of my laptop broke, I could Replace it technically, even though I wouldn’t want to so it’s not stressful, because you’re not really broke.
Also, when you put all of your money into your savings, account see that amount and you don’t want it to go lower, you’re so proud of that amount so that it like that also forces you to be financially aware of your spending habits like right.
Now. I see the amount in my savings account and it looks beautiful. I don’t want to mess that up. I don’t want that to. I don’t want that amount to decrease so like that forces, my spending habits to be better by seeing that amount and seeing it grow, and it motivates you so that’s why this trick works so well.
You know that this might sound like craziest weirdest trick ever, but I swear it works like try. It try. It pretend to be broke. Just pretend I know, people that just put a little bit of money in your savings account they might put like a hundred.
They might put like 20 bucks every paycheck try putting all of it. Pay your bills. Put all the rest in your savings. Account know how much you need to survive every week if it’s like 40 bucks a week or maybe you need fifty bucks a week to or maybe you just need, a hundred which is still okay, keep that amount in your checking’s put everything else away.
Everything see how much your life changes, because once you see that amount in your savings, you don’t want to lose that amount. You don’t want to get rid of it. So then, your you’ll see that your spending habits will change, because you actually see that you’re saving and you’re saving really well, and you can see your goal like more obtainable but yeah.
