Hello everyone, my favorite decades for fashion inspiration have to be the 1970s. I love bell bottoms, floral prints, chunky platforms you name it, the trends in the 70s were just top notch! Some standout styles I’ve taken inspiration from today include the bohemian/prairie look the old Hollywood deco revival and the Americana slash denim trend but I’ll go into more detail as I go through each outfit make sure to let me know in the comments if you want me to make a video on any other decade but without further ado, let’s begin for the first look I based my outfit around this vintage red striped wide lapel shirt.
Stripes were big in the 70s and I feel like vertical stripes in particular have more of a vintage feel especially in combination with a pointed collar you’d normally pair this type of top with a pantsuit but I opted for a red corduroy skirt to match instead while go-go boots were more of a 60s trend they did stick around for a couple of years so I wore these white knee-high boots with my outfit and I tied in the reds and whites of the look with a striped hair ribbon the 70s were all about large, gaudy jewelry so I went with these hoops, a gold chain and a rainbow gem ring the second look is more inspired by the peasant /bohemian trend and it’s essentially what I would wear to a music festival if i was around in the 70s.
I based the look around these multi-color paisley flare pants textiles like this, that mixed various colors and patterns were very prevalent in the 70s. On top, I wore an ochre blouse with bell sleeves to match the flare of the pants for accessories, I went with this handmade pendant in chevron which was another trendy pattern at the time this necklace, the blue gem ring and burgundy Toms tie in with the colors and patterns of the pants very well.
I also wrapped the satin scarf straight around my head I feel like this way goes well with my bangs but head wraps and headscarves in general were a hallmark of the 1970s bohemian trend Denim might have been the most popular fabric of the 70s, apart from polyester, and more women started to incorporate pants into their wardrobes as the second wave of feminism and the Women’s Liberation Movement started to gain more traction So for the third look I went with these classic blue denim flares and I paired them with a vertical striped poop sleeve cropped blouse but the accessories are what really bring it home, I wore some platform cork heel sandals platforms in general were huge in the 70s but this particular strappy style was a go-to both in high fashion and as casual wear.
I also wore this gold circle chain belt with some yellow aviators oversized glasses were another 60s trend that bled into the 70s and finally, I added a multi-color ascot and a rainbow gem gold ring to match the colors in the top.
Ascots were another clever way people chose to wear scarves in the 70s The next look takes inspiration both from the bohemian and Victorian revival trend that also took place in the 70s. I kind of feel like we’re seeing another Victorian revival trend because of the modernization of corset wear along with cottagecore becoming more mainstream so I wore this more modern beige empire waist maxi dress with a pink floral print it has peasant sleeves and a maxi silhouette which were two essentials in the bohemian trend there was also a bit of an Old Hollywood glamour 1940s style revival at the time so furs, especially in the shape of coats were reintroduced into the fashion scene which is why I chose to add this white fur vest on top of my dress as well once again I wore that gold chain belt but this time as a headdress and I added those same white knee high boots to complete the look For the following look, I went back to the denim flares but this time I paired them with a multicolored vintage blouse this one has shoulder pads, which was a trend that nodded once again to the 1940s when women started to wear more masculine silhouettes as a response to the laxation of gender roles caused by World War II.
I added another ribbon to my head but this time in a green floral print and these green circle frames to match These tan leather sandals have a peep toe tying in with a strappy sandal trend along with the neutral color palette that was prominent at the time.
